Dropping Weight(s)

Sometimes I'll have newer female clients randomly drop a weight during their session. I'll do this for a couple of reasons:

  1. Sometimes women are self conscious about lifting in a gym full of strangers. For some reason that self consciousness goes away after you've made a loud thud and no one blinks an eye.
  2. One of the biggest restricters (I think just made that word up) of strength is fear. What if I can't get the weight up? What if I can't get the weight back down? What if I get stuck? Knowing you can safely drop the weight and nothing bad will happen helps to eliminate those fears. Now you concentrate on dominating the weight.

I singled out the ladies because guys are slobs and usually don't have a problem dropping weights and making a lot of noise in the gym. I kidding...kind of. Men tend to be more competitive and will need to be held back as lifting beginners.

Women on the other hand may need a nudge to start lifting weights. Neither is good or bad, they are just different. These aren't the only differences men and women have in the gym. Maybe one of these days I'll delve into more of my experiences dealing with these differences.

In the mean time, if you or anyone you know is ready to get started in the gym and need/want some help, reach out in the comments or any of the social media links below.
